Putao

ituate 1499 ft, 457 meters above sea located far north of Myanmar in Kachin State, descendent from eastern Himalayan region. Lies in a flat valley, famous as a jumping-off point for trekkers who want to explore the region’s deep forests, wildlife sanctuaries and snow-capped mountains. Local tribal communities in Putao region are of Hkamti Shan, Doolin Jimphaw (Kachin), and White color Rawan, Myanmar’s gypsy Lisu, Pigmy Tarong, hunting community of Htalu and Tibetan who lives in the far north in the Himalayas.

Tue - Day 01 Arrival, Putao

Upon arrival at Putao airport you will be met by Putao HOTAL representative and transferred to your guest house. Putao, lies in a flat valley, jumping-off point for trekkers who want to explore the region’s deep forests, wildlife sanctuaries and snow-capped mountains etc. After a brief fresh up and light lunch take a walk around Putao for the orientation. Dinner and overnight at Putao HOTAL. (L,D)

Wed - Day 02 Putao - Htawadum - Namkham (jeep/trek)

Breakfast and visit attractive Putao market often busy with local ethnic tribes. Then depart by jeep/truck through the vast Putao plain on pebbled road to Htawadum (14 km, approx one hour). Cross Malikha river by long-tailed boat to visit famous Kanugmulon Pagoda, said to be one of the 84000 pagodas built by Thiri Dhamma Thawka, the great king. Proceed walking toward Salundum but turn to Nampandum from Lona suspension bridge. Lunch stop and continue walk to Namkham (5 km, approx 3 hours) along smaller villages such as Salundum and Htrandum etc. Namkham, a large Rawan village, situates at the bottom of Namhti mountain range which in rich with biodiversity of flora and fauna. Name after Hkamti Shan name meaning “Golden River” has became the centre of cultivation place for the fruits that Father Robert Moss has introduced thus to day famous for its sweet fruits production. Settle in at your guesthouse and walk around the village. Dinner and overnight at local guest house. (B,L,D)

Thu - Day 03 Namkham - Machanbaw - Mulashidi - Putao (trek/jeep)

Breakfast and start walk to Machanbaw (15 km, approx 6 hours) through relatively low land terrain with occasionally ups and downs passing through some smaller villages such as Inwaingbaw and Inbubaw. Machanbaw is a small administrative town ex-Putao with beautifully set up colonial style town. Lunch stop here and visit so-called "stone dragon" park which should take about 20 minute walk and cross a suspension bridge spans across Malikha river to Naungkhine where your jeep awaits you and take you to Mulashidi Lisu village (35 km, approx one hour). Visit the attractive Lisu settlement and suspension bridge across Mula river. Enjoy beautiful surrounding often back drop with snow-capped mountains in distance. Return back to Putao and check in at your hotel. Dinner and overnight at Putao trekking house. (B,L,D)

Fri - Day 04 Walking tour to Mudon village (easy)

Breakfast and visit attractive Putao market and rest of the morning at leisure. Perhaps visit one of the local orphanage schools and afternoon take an easy walk to Paneling Hkamti Shan Village and visit unique Mahamuni Image and other attractions. Continue walk to Putaung Shan village through paddy field and gardens having small Buddhist Shrine with a back drop of Blue Mountains and snow-capped Mountains far in the horizon. Continue walk to Gyinyankan Lisu village and finally walk to Malawagy village, located on a small plateau which gives you a panoramic view of Putao valley. Return walk will be though Lonsut village back to Putao and check in at hotel. Dinner and overnight at Putao trekking house (B,L,D)

Sat – Day 05 Trekking to Zion village and beyond (moderate)

Sat – Day 05 Trekking to Zion village and beyond (moderate) Breakfast and depart by jeep to Mulashidi Lisu village (13km, approx 20 minutes) through well-paved road across part of the Putao plain. Mulashidi, meaning in Lisu “ the village stands in the thatch field along Mula river” has been over 50 year since it built by the missionary. Walk around this unique village and enjoy scenery from Mulashidi suspension bridge, which spends across the path, goes through fields. Explore this unique village, proceed to Zion, a large suspension bridge, and spend time by the river having gorges views of the Putao plain having backdrop of snow-capped mountain far in the horizon. Afternoon return back to Putao and check in at our hotel. Dinner and overnight at Putao trekking hyouse.(B,L,D) (total walking hour – approx -3-5)

Sun – Day 6 Departure

Breakfast and perhaps a last minute shopping at Putao market. Later transfer to airport for your onward departure flight to conclude this unique experience. (B)
